Roy Kehl is a long time resident of Sparta New Jersey, Artistic creativity, with a love of detail and balance, has been a continuous thread running through the activities of his life; which include gardening, carpentry and photography. His first piece, though, was created out of need, the restoration of his 170 year old home. Two pieces of stained glass were needed to fit two interior doors. Two doors, as they turned out, transcended simply being windows. upon seeing the quality of his work, he was encouraged by many to pursue his craft and continue as a serious artist.

    Roy's early pieces were built by a process called foiling. Not satisfied with that method and inspired not only by works of Frank Lloyd Wright and that of old world craftsman who created architectural details found in Europe including stained glass, he changed to an older method using lead came. With limited formal instruction, his fascination with and enjoyment of colors and characteristics of glass, as well as natural ability in working with, are evident in his glass pieces. Without having been sketched or rendered in advance and without pattern, using his selection of high quality transparent, translucent and antique clear glass, each piece of Roy's art is uniquely one of a kind.

    He considers his work as a falling outside the realm of windows: rather they are paintings in glass. As a matter of fact, when asked, he will tell you, "I don't do windows." Roy's Pieces are in many private collections in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Florida and Oregon.
